Promotion and Protection of Innovations and Intellectual Property

Patent Information Centre (PIC), PSCST is taking IPR issues to the grass-root R&D workers and innovators, especially in the academics and industry by raising awareness, capacity building and facilitating IPR filings.

Awareness Activities Undertaken

  • Celebration of World IP Day: PIC-PSCST celebrates the World IP Day by organizing one day workshop on theme associated with the IP Day. 

  • IPR Awareness Programs: PIC, PSCST in collaboration with its existing 12 IPR Cells organizes  workshops and seminars/expert talks for the faculty & research scholars of the universities. PIC, PSCST also conducts IPR sensitization workshops for MSME clusters at various places in the state. 

  • Special Lectures/Seminars on IPR: PIC Team also delivers  expert lectures on various IPR related topics during Faculty Development Programs/national seminars/workshops etc.

  • Faculty Training Camps: PIC-PSCST in collaboration with Department of technical Education, GoP organizes Faculty Training Camps in  polytechnics of Punjab to sensitize faculty regarding various IPRs and state govt. schemes to facilitate their IP filings.

  • Patent Applications forwarded to TIFAC for Filing: 36

  • Patent Applications presented in TIFAC’s CIPF Meetings: 33, approved for filing 15

  • Patents Filed at Indian Patent Office: 09

  • Patents Granted by Indian Patent Office: 05

  • Subscription of Thomson Innovation Online Patent Database

  • Trademarks searches conducted: 6

  • Copyrights filed: 4 

IPR Trainings Attended:

International: JPO/IPR Training at Tokyo, Japan - Mr. Gurharminder Singh, Senior Scientific Officer (Env.) & In-charge (PIC) attended Japan Patent Office sponsored “IPR Training Course for IP Trainers” in Tokyo, Japan from 17th June, 2015 to 1st July, 2015.

Besides, several National workshops and training programs are regularly attended by the staff of PIC, PSCST.  

IPR Trainings:

  • IPR training on patent searching, patent information analysis & IPR filing procedures sare provided to:

  •  Women Scientist Trainee deputed by TIFAC, DST, GoI 

  • students of LLB, M.Sc & Ph.D courses from institutes of Punjab & Chandigarh

  • volunteers and scientists

New Initiatives undertaken by PIC, PSCST

  • Collaboration with CIPAM-DIPP, GoI with PIC-PSCST as key partner for implementation of National IPR policy, 2016 in the state of Punjab & Chandigarh.

  • Special Project initiated for Sports Cluster, Jalandhar to identify IP needs, current status and possible technological solutions from patent and Off Patent information of selected sports equipments for overall technology upgradation of the sports goods cluster 

  • Setting up of new University IPR cell at Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University, Bathinda.

  • Registration of Authorized User of GI Phulkari: PIC, PSCST facilitated drafting & filing of application of Ms. Seema Rani, Artisan, Patiala for registration as authorized user of GI Phulkari for onward submission to GI Registry, Chennai. She has been awarded Äuthorized User” No. AU/2257/GI/27/2 vide certificate No. 1124. 

  • Uploading of IPR information on websites of Universities: Basic information about IPRs and contact details of all Nodal IPR officers of all university IPR cells have been uploaded on their respective websites for wider usage by stakeholders.

  • Creation of Facebook Page of PIC-PSCST: To create more visibility of the centre, a Facebook page was created for PIC-PSCST. The page is regularly updated with glimpses of recent activities taken up by the centre.

  • Evaluation of Science projects w.r.t. IPR protection: PIC, PSCST team evaluated science projects at PGS City, Kapurthala; IIT, Ropar and District Science Exhibition, Ropar to assess potential for their IP protection.
